Woman’s alleged threats to museum, mosque and radio station escalated over years

A Sydney woman has been refused bail after being charged with more than 60 offences over a tranche of letters she allegedly sent to the city’s Jewish museum, its largest mosque and a commercial radio station, which escalated in their severity, culminating in death threats. Jasmine Amanda Baker, 36, was arrested at her western Sydney home on Wednesday morning by detectives from NSW Police’s Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Command, who had been investigating the alleged threats since May. Police allege the woman sent 19 abusive letters purporting to be from another person to the Sydney Jewish Museum, Lakemba Mosque and Sydney radio station 2GB.

She is also alleged to have sent letters to politicians and local, state and federal government agencies. The letters were allegedly sent between 2021 and this year. Baker was charged with 62 offences, including threatening death or grievous bodily harm, stalking and intimidation, and dishonestly obtaining financial benefit by deception.

Appearing in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, Baker wore a beige embroidered headscarf and sat with her head bowed as her charges were discussed. The court heard Baker suffered a traumatic incident in 2018 that led her to develop PTSD. She is on the carer’s pension and is full-time carer for her mother, who has “multiple health concerns”.
